Grand Rapids Community College’s Secchia Institute of Culinary Education is hosting the Nation’s Cup in its return to Grand Rapids.
The Nation’s Cup is a culinary competition that features competitors from six different countries: Scotland, Barbados, Italy, Mexico, Canada and the United States.
The U.S. team will comprise of students from GRCC, after a tryout that will select the top two students, one male and one female competitor.
The competition spans three days, with a total of six “mystery basket” competitions, which feature different courses including meat, seafood, hot appetizer and dessert.
“All of the competitions are an hour and a half long, so an hour and a half to prepare, cook, and plate,” said SICE Storeroom Manager Stephanie Pyka-Smith of Grand Rapids.
The competition is open to the public and kicks off Thursday, Oct. 19 at 8 a.m.
