The familiar strains of “Winter Wonderland” echoed around Rosa Parks Circle Thursday afternoon as some of the season’s first skaters took advantage of the newly opened ice rink.
The rink officially opened Dec. 4, but is still experiencing minimal traffic. There had only been four people on the ice when Noah Rotman and his companion arrived.
“We’re just waiting for the Zamboni to get off the ice,” Rotman explained.
Admission for the rink is $3 for adults and $1 for people age 17 and under. This fee also covers hockey skate rental, according to a recreation guide from the City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department. According to the guide, the rink will stay operational until Feb. 23, barring any complications.
The rink’s open hours are from 10 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. on Sunday.
