Trespass at Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall
On Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 a.m. Grand Rapids Community College police officers were dispatched to the fourth floor of the Raleigh J. Finkelstein building to investigate a report of a man attempting to sell drugs. The officers were advised by dispatch that the suspect was wearing red socks and a tan hooded sweatshirt.
Upon arriving, the officers were initially unable to locate the suspect. Then they were informed by dispatch that he had moved to the third floor by the vending machines. Since the officer had already checked that level however dispatch would clarify that the suspect was on the second floor in the men’s restroom. Upon arriving, officers were able to locate the man in the hallway near the restroom. The officer asked if the man knew why he was being questioned, informing of the report. The officer then asked for permission to search the man which was refused. The man would further state he was not a current student.
A file check on the man came up clean so the responding officers let him go with a warning.
Pickup damaged in Ramp A
On Oct. 14, at 4:33 p.m. an officer was informed by a Grand Rapids Community College student about damage that occurred to the student’s 2004 Sierra pickup truck.
Upon arriving at Parking Ramp A together, the student was able to show the officer the damage. The grille of the truck had been taped back into place by the time of the officers arrival, this was necessary according to the student, on Oct. 9 at about 6 p.m. When the student returned to his truck after classes it appeared as if someone had attempted to pull the grille off of the truck due to said grille being pulled out and away from the vehicle. The student also stated that in the front of his vehicle, he could see the clips were broken from where someone pulled it.
The student believed the damage occurred sometime between Sept. 30 and Oct. 9 on Tuesday or Wednesday between 1:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Due to the broad range of time, the officer was unable to locate footage of the incident.
Graffiti found on car in Sneden parking lot
On Thursday, Oct. 17 at 12:55 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the Sneden parking lot at the Devos campus regarding a report of damage to a college vehicle. Upon arriving the officer noticed some graffiti that was left on the back of a GRCC box truck. The graffiti was a tag that appeared to be done with a black marker and was the word ghost and the number 313.
It is unknown when the damage occurred and there are no suspects at this time.
