Despite the classes to attend and homework to do, many students at Grand Rapids Community College are investing their free time in nurturing their brain through reading this fall.

Jean Pierre Timothy, 25, of Grand Rapids, is a student at GRCC. “ ‘God Still Lives… Even When You Wonder. It is a book I am reading written by Don Maclafferty,” Timothy shared with The Collegiate when asked which book he is reading this Fall.

He chose it because he likes novels and started reading it on Friday and is intending to finish it by next Monday.

Timothy believes the book is worth the read, saying “Absolutely it is a very interesting book, I can encourage everyone to read it.”

Timothy does not want to take a break from reading as he is planning to read the book entitled “The Crooked Christmas Tree” before Christmas.

Alliance Wendy, of Kentwood, is attending GRCC to obtain an associate degree in dental hygiene. She doesn’t like to waste time

and is passionate about reading. Wendy is currently reading the book entitled The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey.

“I am reading it because I want to make some changes in my life and make progress,” Wendy said.

Even if Wendy has a busy schedule of courses, the next book she plans to read will be chosen in November.

“I always get book recommendations from friends and the library,”she said.

Mark Edmond, 21, from Wyoming, is attending GRCC to obtain a certificate in electrical controls. When he was attending elementary school, Edmond developed a reading habit, since then he dedicates 10 hours to reading each week.

“I am reading ‘How to Break Up with Your Phone,’” Edmond shared. He chose to read it because cell phones are becoming a nagging habit for him and he wants to make corrections. Edmond said he gets book recommendations from Amazon.

A Comstock Park Public Library staff member provided a list of books that are currently checked out the most in Kent county libraries:

  1. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
  2. James by Percival Everett
  3. Martyr! by Kaveh Ahbar

To keep on reading, students and other residents can access books in various ways by coming to the Library located at 3943 W River Dr NE, Comstock Park,MI 49321, or accessing books online.
