Monday, March 16:
Noon to 1 p.m. The Bob and Alecia Woodrick Center for Inclusion and Multicultural Affairs, in partnership with the University of Michigan’s “Transfer Bridges” program, is hosting “ALAS Community Circle: Higher Education 101: Understanding the College System” in Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, room 374. This workshop will help students build foundational knowledge about college, financial aid, academic success, and transferring after GRCC. 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. FutureTech Careers is hosting “Transferable Skills 101” as a part of their Career Conversations series. GRCC FutureTech Careers’ Program Coordinator, Linus Kaechele, will discuss the identification and use of transferable career skills. Students can attend the discussion both in person and online in the Applied Technology Center Auditorium, room 168, or on Zoom. Tuesday, March 17:
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Center for Career and Professional Readiness is having a “Belle Tire Hiring Event” on floor G2 of RJF Hall. Students can stop by and learn about the jobs available at the Michigan-founded tire shop chain, Belle Tire. There will be free stuff available at the event.
5 to 6 p.m. FutureTech Careers is hosting “Pathways to Web Development” as a part of their Career Conversations series. Creative Director and Founder of CARNEVALE, Mike Carnevale, will discuss careers in web development and design, along with his personal journey starting as an industrial designer, to the founder of CARNEVALE. Students can attend the discussion both in person and online in the Applied Technology Center Auditorium, room 168, or on Zoom. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required, and the lecture is open to the public.
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. “Stand Out” will host their weekly meeting in the Student Life Hub of the Student Center.
Wednesday, March 18:
2 to 3 p.m. U-M Transfer Bridges is having a “moMentum Info Session” in room 108 of RJF Hall. Students interested in transferring to the University of Michigan are invited to attend this information session about “optiMize moMentum Fellowship”, a program led by U-M student leaders tailored for incoming or interested transfer students passionate about social innovation.
2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club is having its weekly meeting in room 206 of Sneden Hall at the Devos Campus.
5:30 to 6:30 p.m. U-M Transfer Bridges is hosting a “Liberal Arts Degree Info Session” over Zoom. Students are invited to learn about career pathways for liberal arts transfer students. Students will learn about prioritizing what they want in a job and education, and explore resources to help them find pathways suited to their interests.
Thursday, March 19:
11:30 a.m. brunch, lecture at noon. The Woodrick Center, along with the Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus, is hosting a diversity lecture series featuring Calvetta Watlington from the Pauli Murray Center. The GRCC community is invited to learn more about Murray’s legacy in room 168 of the ATC.
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being is hosting “Drawing the Line: Setting Boundaries that Stick,” as part of their Well-Being Workshop series, sharing information on how to recognize and communicate boundaries at the Raider Grill (room 205 of the Student Center). There will be free food and parking passes.
4 to 5:30 p.m. Campus Activities Board and Student Government is holding its monthly “Student Leaders Town Hall” meeting in room 108 of RJF Hall. The campus community is invited to show up to share ideas, ask questions, and make their voices heard.
6:30 p.m. The Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus is hosting a watch party of “My Name is Pauli Murray” followed by a panel discussion at Spectrum Theater.
Friday, March 20:
3 to 5 p.m. Raider Nation Gaming is holding its weekly meeting in room 218 of Cook Hall. Show up to play games of all sorts– from video games to board games– and hang out with fellow gamers.
3:30 to 4 p.m. Cinema Society is meeting in room 219 of the ATC. Show up to discuss film in all of its glory, from the film itself to scripts, costumes, and historical and cultural contexts of films.
Saturday, March 21:
6 p.m. Community Partner Tabling, 6:30 p.m. pre-concert talk, 7:30 p.m. concert. The Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus is hosting “Sincerely yours, Pauli Murray” at Fountain Street Church, a musical portrait of the life of Pauli Murray.
No athletic events are happening on campus in the coming week.
