On Saturday, March 28, a third round of “No Kings” demonstrations protesting against the Trump administration will take place nationwide, including in the Grand Rapids area.
From 10 a.m. to noon, a “Coffee Convoy” will gather at North Riverfront Park in Lowell. Also during this time, a protest rally will be held on the corner of Rivertown Parkway and Wilson Avenue in Grandville.
In Grand Rapids proper, a singalong will take place at Calder Plaza from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The main rally will be held at Rosa Parks Circle from 1-3 p.m.
The Grand Rapids events are part of a larger No Kings movement, which encompasses over 3,000 protests nationwide. The Detroit Free Press reports over 115 events scheduled in Michigan alone.
The events have collectively been billed as “a sustained national resistance to tyranny, spreading from small towns to city centers and across every community determined to defend democracy.” Organizers have emphasized the movement’s principles of non-violence, stressing “a commitment to nonviolent action” and urging participants to remain peaceful and de-escalate conflict.
These protests are the third round of their kind to hit the streets in Grand Rapids and throughout the country. The first took place on June 14, 2025, which is also President Trump’s birthday. As controversial Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity ramped up throughout the U.S., a second round of protests was held on Oct. 18. Both included protests in Grand Rapids, which turned out thousands.
In the aftermath of the second round of protests, President Trump called them “a joke” and stated, “I’m not a king. I work my ass off to make our country great. That’s all it is.” He also made an unsubstantiated claim that the events were “paid for by (billionaire philanthropist George) Soros and other radical left lunatics.”
Trump has yet to comment on the events planned for this weekend.
A “Know Your Rights” virtual training session, which will instruct prospective protesters on their rights and give tips on protest safety, will be held by the American Civil Liberties Union on Monday, March 23, at 6 p.m. EST.
