With finals on the horizon, Grand Rapids Community College is preparing for a week of testing. To compensate for the apprehensive environment, several events with a de-stressing (not distressing) nature will be happening in the week of April 20. Read on to find out where to find social events, dogs, and food in the coming week:
Monday, April 20:
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Graduating students are invited to stop by the Center for Student Life and Leadership office, located in the Student Center, to decorate a graduation cap. Crafting supplies will be provided during office hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. De-stress with therapy dogs in room 234 of the Student Center, courtesy of the Campus Activities Board.
Tuesday, April 21:
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Campus Activities Board is having a bath bomb-making event at the Lakeshore Campus Atrium, located in Holland.
4 to 5 p.m. “Rotaract Club” is having its monthly meeting, featuring guest speaker Sarah Zevalkink, in room 219 of the Applied Technology Center. Zevalkink is an HR Consultant who got her degree in Human Resources Administration from Central Michigan University, and has over 15 years of field experience. There will be free food at the meeting.
4:30 to 5:30 p.m. “Writers at GRCC” will be meeting in room 275 of RJF Hall. “Writers of GRCC” is a student organization open to any students who want to meet with other student writers and discuss literary arts. This meeting will be centered on a brief discussion of a specific topic having to do with writing, followed by a creative writing exercise.
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. “Stand Out” will host its weekly meeting in the Student Life Hub, located in the Student Center.
5 to 6 p.m. U–M Transfer Bridges is hosting “Making the Leap – Student Perspectives on Transferring to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor” over Zoom. Any community college student curious about transferring to the University of Michigan is encouraged to attend the meeting, as current U–M students share their experiences and answer questions about transferring to the school.
Wednesday, April 22:
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. AI Incubator is giving out “Free Google AI Professional Certificate Vouchers” in room 133 of Calkins Science Center. Students can drop in and claim a voucher that covers a course totaling in around 10 hours of completely online modules educating students, regardless of major, about AI literacy and productive usage. Once finished with the course, students will receive a certificate to put on a resume or LinkedIn profile. If students can’t make it to campus, they can attend a Zoom session at 8 p.m. on the same day.
2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club is having its weekly meeting in room 206 of Sneden Hall at the Devos Campus.
Thursday, April 23:
11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Retention Services is partnering with the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to host a “DE-STRESS FEST” for currently enrolled students on the third floor of the Student Center. Students can stop by to play games like “guess that tune” or paint and color. There will also be mini workshops teaching students valuable skills in test-taking, study skills, and academic habits. Students have the chance to win gift cards, mini prizes, otters, and GRCC merchandise. There will be free chips and dip, otter-pops, and flavored water.
3 to 5:30 p.m.The “Latino Student Union” is having its final meeting of the semester in room 108 of Sneden Hall.
3 to 6 p.m. Financial Aid is hosting “Financial Aid Frenzy – Lakeshore Campus,” where students can get hands-on support from the Financial Aid department in completing their FAFSA for the 2026-2027 school year. Work alone or in a group on each step of the FAFSA, and learn about scholarships and payment options. The event will be held at the Lakeshore Campus in Holland.
5:30 to 8 p.m. The Bob and Aleicia Woodrick Center is hosting its first annual “Rise Up and Achieve: The Golden Royal End of Year Celebration” in the Secchia Piazza at the ATC. The GRCC Community is invited to gather as the Rise Up & Achieve program reflects on its year of growth, resilience, and achievement. The evening is meant to recognize the accomplishments of the Rise Up & Achieve students and mentors, while highlighting the importance of belonging and persistence. The dress code is business casual. Students can RSVP here.
Friday, April 24:
2:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Muslim Student Association is having its bi-weekly meeting in room 219 of the ATC. Everyone is welcome to come together and have meaningful conversations, whether to connect about Islam or just meet new people.
3 to 5 p.m. Raider Nation Gaming is holding its weekly meeting in room 218 of Cook Hall. Show up to play games of all sorts– from video games to board games– and hang out with fellow gamers.
